Start as you mean to go on

The embryo Rotary Club East Mallorca International, held its first social event on Thursday 20 October, Tapas Lunch and wine tasting (or was it the other way around?) at the Bodega Xaloc in Pollensa.

Visitors assembling with due regard to current restrictions

This was by way of a celebration of the progress made in getting prospective members, sufficient to apply for a charter. Along with new Club organiser, Geoff Moore, there were prospective members, Rotarian guests, including Jesus Martinez, former Assistant District Governor and other guests.

We had an opportunity to inspect the vineyard, the winery and the store. We met    Christina Schallock, the owner (seen below) and producer of 5 quality wines, with significant medal winners amongst them.

Christina explained the work that had been undertaken to establish the bodega over 20 years and introduction of the grapes that were used to produce the blanco, 2 rosada and  2 tintos.

We all then took the opportunity to taste the wines accompanied by lots and lots (and I mean lots and lots) of tapas. Both the food and wine were excellent. Everyone seemed to enjoy all of the food judging by the empty plates that went back and the wines too were delicious.

Jesus provided us with a history of Rotary, particularly in Europe and in Spain along with an indication of what the Clubs on the island are doing currently. He promised to attend the new Club’s meetings regularly to provide more detail on Rotary.

So, a good afternoon was had by all and everyone is looking forward to the next event. Perhaps the ‘Charter Dinner’. In any event, let us hope that this event is the start of many such.

Well done Angelika Jannsen for organising such a great social occasion.
