Cooler weather – progress warming up!

The weather may be cooler but everything warming up in preparation for the Chartering of East Mallorca International

Sixteen people met on 25 November to hear Geoff Moore set out the next practical steps in the formation of the new Club, and to discuss the various activities to assist the local communities. All socially distanced and outside on the terrace of Son Severa Golf Club.

Nomination forms were to be sent out that evening, to be returned within 14days, for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Club Host. The Club’s Regulations and Bye laws had been drafted and a small group were to consider them before the meeting on 9 December, before being put to the members for adoption. Once the officials had been elected and the regulations adopted the various legal procedures can be undertaken, obtaining a CIF Number, registering with the Authorities and obtaining the Charter.

Geoff announced that the President of Rotary Club Calvia, the Sponsor Club, had committed herself to help and was, as is traditional, donating a bell to the Club. Geoff said he would suggest some appropriate words to be engraved on the bell.

Geoff also introduced two Associate Members of the Sponsor Club, Lorraine and Eric Wilsdon,  seen here, who were visiting the new Club for the first time. Eric gave a potted history of his Rotary career. And there were assurances that other, ex Rotarians would be around to help and assist the new Club get off the ground.

There were then reports on various activities in train – helping a local charity with their foodbank and furniture store. A visit was taking place for all members next month as well as a visit to an agricultural cooperative where local wine, almonds, vegetables and garden/pool products can be purchased. The visit to the cooperative, on 17 December, may be accompanied by a wine and tapas evening. There were also suggestions for events and cooperation in other of the five municipalities.

But next week the donation box for Children’s Christmas toys will be opened and the wish list provided by the children of the needy families in Son Severa will be matched with the available money. There were sufficient commitments that would ensure no shortfall!

Altogether another heartening visit to the new Club. Lots of enthusiasm and a real spirit of service above self.
